As if there was a dearth of quirky, nonsensical handbags out there, we’re lucky to have Dolce and Gabbana filling the void for us. The pre-fall Miss Catch Lock Tote is a jumble of turquoise, moss and lime leathers. Thrown in is a patch of leopard-print calf hair and a hefty silver push-lock to finish it up. I actually don’t dislike this one at all. The color scheme is ridiculous, but it somehow doesn’t blind me either. The shape is adorable, like a little designer basket. Cute, but perhaps not (ok, definitely not) worth the $2550 price tag. Available to pre-order at Nordstrom.

Lindsay Lohan certainly has a hankering for snakeskin lately. First it was Pauric Sweeney’s python purses; now, it’s this bold and beautiful multicolored snakeskin handbag from Dolce & Gabbana. Essentially the handbag equivalent of Joseph’s Technicolor Dreamcoat, this vibrant purse impresses me more than the small tiles of the label’s similar patchwork bags. It’s splashier, edgier, and less restrained (kind of like Lindsay). And hey, it’s summer - why not wear rainbow-hued snakeskin?

I’m loving Dolce and Gabbana’s liberal use of this deep teal hue lately. On the new Miss Urbanette Dome Satchel, it looks slightly unfinished and rugged, not at all like the bold colors we’re seeing everywhere this season. That makes it the perfect piece to transition from late summer into the cooler months. You may feel it’s too early to be thinking about that right now, but fortunately this roomy satchel has its place in summer wardrobes, too. It’s essentially great to carry year round, and you’ll find it works almost as a neutral thanks to its understated quality. Available for $1995 at Nordstrom.

Considering her price before the sale, I’d assume Miss Catch really is a catch now - at least for some. Roomy, classic, simple, with a ladylike structure that keeps it timeless, this Dolce and Gabbana satchel definitely holds promise as one of the more useful bags in a woman’s collection. It will pair well with everything and carry easily year round, which is more than can be said for so many trendy pieces these days. The downside? Despite its over-the-top original $2750 price, it’s still a little steep at $1650. Unless you really love neutrals, you may want to hold out for something with a touch more color. Though I can never really get too excited about a raffia tote bag, I have to say that this is a steal if you’re really into designer beach bags. Brown grained leather trim and sleek silver hardware give it that polished touch, but the tote is primarily sturdy raffia with a chic animal-print lining. Great for any summer excursion. I guess Jessica Simpson got bored of pimping out her own line of purses, and decided to find a brand-new bag. Entrez the Dolce & Gabbana Patchwork Snakeskin Clutch, a multicolored masterpiece boasting python leather in every pigment. I like the contrast of the richly hued, almost autumnal purse against Jessica’s yellow California beach babe sundress, and it definitely gives this mainstream pop tart some high fashion edge. The clutch is a bit large for my tastes (what’s she got in there, a ferret), but overall I’m a fan of this look.
