It’s not often I fawn all over a Fendi bag, but this one is worth a little extra attention. The lavishly decorated Embroidered Leather Baguette is beautifully tended to with ornate floral detail. So here’s what happens when you put a little plastic on leather. C’mon, Fendi. We all know the label is capable of producing some serious crap (sorry, fans), but the Jelly Flower Applique Baguette is really clamoring to win the Most Absurd Bag of the Year Award. What are these? Candy dots? I don’t know, but Fendi has left me scratching my head once again with its Baguette Studded Neoprene Shoulder Bag, a kind of dubious-looking design that would make me question the motives of the woman carrying it. It’s such a shame, because the baguette silhouette is one of the most classic in existence. Yet Fendi insists upon doing all kinds of weird things to it. I’d say the ratio of weird to wonderful designs is 10:1. Not very confidence-inspiring, is it? Available for $2677 at Browns.

Fendi does know how to produce some stellar bags, after all. I know, I know – who the heck am I to criticize Fendi? But I feel like the label is one of the best at designing WTF-worthy creations on a regular basis. Then there’s the 2Jours Medium Tote Bag, a spacious carryall completely void of detailing – which is just how I like it. The cool sky blue hue does all the work, while the inner compartments and zippered pocket keep everything organized. It’s truly an all-around great bag. Available for $2260 at Neiman Marcus.

Checkers, anyone? If you’ve got a thing for the game or just fancy yourself something totally different, look the way of the new Fendi Giano Pequin Eelskin Minaudiere. Composed of squares of eelskin and boar leather, this bag boasts an incredible texture – there’s no denying that. The curved silhouette and glossy finish elevate its potential for glamour, though it ultimately pales next to a really glitzy evening bag. Still, there’s a time and place for this…maybe with an earthy maxi evening dress and gold sandals? Available for $2350 at Neiman Marcus.

A touch of fringe isn’t always a good thing. In the case of the Fendi Stolba Bead Fringe Baguette, it’s actually a most unwelcome guest that only adds to the ridiculousness of the bag. Bearing in mind this is a classic style from one of the world’s most revered fashion houses, I don’t feel too bad looking at this with such a critical eye. But it sure would be nice to have a Fendi purse to complement every now and then. This is just one of many that I find kind of…atrocious. Available for $4680 at Neiman Marcus.

Ooh, la la! How lovely is this Fendi Chameleon Small Leather Tote? Crafted of supple Italian leather, the new Chameleon is an impressive handbag that is all but guaranteed to make its owner feel like the most stylish thing on the planet. It’s very mellow, yet so opulent with its pretty combination of ivory and camel leather (or, as Fendi calls it, “powder/makeup/barley”). This is exactly the kind of purse I’d carry everywhere and wear with almost anything. How often can you say that about a bag? Available for $2290 at Nordstrom.

While I’m normally a huge fan of studded detailing, I can’t seem to take a liking to this Fendi Daisy Studded Mink Python Mixed Media Shoulder Bag. Something about the color combination of the studs throws me off. Perhaps coral, burnt orange, white, and black just don’t mix according to my personal palette. How do you feel about this little dandy? Does it drive you batty or make you happy? Find it at Saks Fifth Avenue for $1,850.

Surprise, surprise. Another amazing Fendi bag that’s out of my price range. And this one boasts my favorite pattern: stripes. The Pequin Hobo features a red strap, in stark contrast to the tobacco tones found elsewhere on the bag. The calfskin leather on this hobo is so smooth to the touch that I hardly ever put it down. The thing that makes this already outstanding bag a little better is the neutral-but-charming cotton interior. Available from Nordstrom for $1245.
