I have to admit that some of the more recent Gucci purses have left me feeling a little lukewarm. But baby, look at you now! I’m crushing hard on this new Gucci Icon Bit Medium Shoulder Bag, mostly because that dark blue suede is just so, so rich and lovely. And did I mention it comes in purple, too? I love the soft, slouchy shape and traditional Gucci staples like the horsebit detail. A beautiful addition to my fall wish list. Available at Bergdorf Goodman for $1,390.

What’s the best way to bounce back after being dumped? Don’t get mad…get Gucci. Lindsay Lohan licked her wounds after what is rumored to be yet another breakup with DJ Samantha Ronson by stepping out with her new arm candy - a Gucci Irina Tote. Lindsay already has another Irina, but this version has a more folksy twist, thanks to its black suede body and embroidered details. Not my favorite Gucci, but the look works. Hang in there, girl.

The buzz in London is that Lindsay Lohan has reunited with on-off lover Samantha Ronson. The buzz on PursePage, however, is how this supposedly cash-strapped starlet managed to get her freckled paws on not only the Chloe Paraty in blue, but a white, heart-detailed Gucci Irina Tote as well. The problem with carrying two fancy designer purses (and yes, there is a problem, believe it or not) is that they sometimes cancel each other out, as is the case here. Though neither really works with Lindsay’s black and turquoise ensemble, putting the two of them together just looks haphazard and unfinished. Pick a bag, girl.

Whoa. How’d Daisy Duke get her hands on a Gucci bag? Oh, wait, that’s just Lindsay Lohan, randomly pairing her summery cropped (read: way too short) peasant blouse, fringed sandals, and cropped (read: again, WAY too short) cut-offs with an elegant Gucci monogrammed carry-all. Love the Gucci, but it looks totally wrong with this youthful, beach bimbo-y look, don’t you think? I know La Lohan is going through some tough times, but there’s no need to take it out on a poor defenseless designer handbag.

Gucci is known for their accessories, and I’m wondering how their canvas bags hold up. Recently I was talking with friends, and the census seemed to be that Louis Vuitton canvas bags were among the most durable bags in our collections. How about Gucci canvas? It isn’t coated like the LV bags, but is it just as durable? The Large Jockey Hobo bag is stylish and functional, but I’m not loving it in the beige canvas. The black I can tolerate, but is the monogrammed cloth “worth” $1,350? I would like it a lot better if the leather at either corner of the bag completely covered the bottom of the bag, which would make it easier to handle. If the Gucci canvas is anything like Coach canvas, it gets dirty pretty easily!

Looks like Gucci is going 24k. The luxe label’s latest handbags for fall - including this Gucci D Gold Medium Tote - have landed at Neiman Marcus, and the color scheme is gold, gold, gold. Unfortunately, I’d trade some of that Fort Knox grandeur for originality and fashion-forward thinking. Whereas Louis Vuitton goes a fantastic job of reinventing their classic monogram in thrilling new ways (cough, Sprouse), Gucci sometimes just sends out purses that I feel like I’ve seen a million times before. Sure, the dark gold leather trim on this roomy tote is a new twist, but at the end of the day I’m not jumping out of my chair. Available at Neiman Marcus for $795.

Let’s hear it for the Gucci love! First Lindsay Lohan showed off her Gucci monogrammed handbag, and now Kate Moss, of all people - seriously, when does she ever carry non-black purses? - has busted out a Gucci bag of her own. Clearly going for a nautical look with her striped top and red and blue-accented purse, Kate seems quite in tune with the season, and it’s nice to see her shake her style up a bit. What do you think? Do you prefer Gucci’s monogram bag to Louis Vuitton’s?

Lindsay Lohan may be wanted by the coppers for her various drunk driving misdeeds, but at least she’s steering clear of the Fashion Police with her chic Gucci handbag. Wearing her typical uniform of a slouchy tee and black leggings, the potential inmate probably should have opted for a black purse to better complement her monochrome look, but at least the girl knows her classics. The monogram style is one of my favorites - and considerably less-uniquitous than the Louis Vuitton monogram - and I’ll always have a sweet spot for those forest green and red stripes. Let’s just hope that La Lohan doesn’t get TOO comfortable wearing stripes.

It looks like Gucci is sticking with the boho feel that did them well for FW 08. The SS 09 bags are out and they’re begging to be worn with a blouson top, dark jeans and perfectly tousled hair for that super luxe bohemian look. The New Jackie Large Bag is perfect for every day, and it’s available in black and coral. Black is always a winner, but the coral shade is a welcomed twist for spring. You can wear the long strap on your shoulder, or carry it in the crook of your arm, but either way it’s perfectly relaxed, yet deliciously expensive looking. Um, Salma…were they having a blowout sale at the Gucci store or something? The actress opted for not just a boho-chic Gucci peasant dress, but a monogram Gucci Indy purse with red leather trim as well. I’m on the fence here. I love me some Gucci, but I prefer to mix and watch my designer wares. I can’t help thinking the dress would work better with a petite clutch, and the handbag with a sleeker jeans-and-blazer duo. Am I wrong?
