I’m usually not much for those too-kitschy Kate Spade bags that revolve around some sort of theme. But where summer is concerned, I’m obviously not immune because I am ALL OVER the South of the Border Canvas Bon Shopper. It’s just so charming and playful, and it’s like the beach bag of my dreams brought to life. I’d be unapologetic about carrying this everywhere all season long, from the boardwalk to the bistro. Kate Spade has put out a chevron bag with her new Mexico City Stripe Small Harmony, but despite my love of both the brand and the stripey pattern, it all seems kind of pointless. Kate Spade is usually doing something quirky and original, and let’s face it, she’s a couple years late with the zigzag pattern. I suppose if you are committed to the pattern at this point and want to see it through thick and thin, this is the bag to go with. It’s $198 at KateSpade.com.

My enthusiasm for the new Kate Spade Saturday line has markedly waned in recent weeks. While it was quite intriguing at first, it all seems to possess a certain sameness and blandness that makes it far less exciting than its parent company’s routinely fun offerings. That said, there are a few sensibly chic items in the mix that do call my name. Right now, it’s the Half-Circle Satchel – relatively all business, but with a dainty sort of appeal in the form of a soft blush contrasting hue, a girlish rounded flap and a compact shape.
