The word “rockabilly” usually strikes fear into my heart, but I’m happy to report that this Marc Jacobs Rockabilly Leather Purse does not. The handbag cleverly mimics the traditional rockabilly pompadour ‘do with its swirled laser-cut pattern, and the bright fuchsia satin lining is a fun, quirky twist. Is there room in your wardrobe for a cartoony bag or two? Marc Jacobs must think so, because a great many of his purses from the current collection are all wildly colorful, unexpectedly blending varying shades with ease to create something you’ll either love or hate. His Mini Iggy Dee Dee Shoulder Bag is available in a couple of shades and unites faux python with a chunky silver chain strap. It’s not unexpected from a guy like Marc, but just because he’s a genius doesn’t mean his designs will always work, either. Available for $1395 at Barneys.

I am absolutely smitten by the Marc Jacobs Mirror Heart Evening Bag. It’s available in a multitude of great colors (like this autumn-appropriate purple) and is completely adorable with its imprinted hearts. Even better, it’s pretty versatile: It can obviously be worn on date night, ladies’ night out, concert night or whatever is on your agenda, but it also looks perfect with jeans, tall boots and a sleek sweater. But best of all? It’s $35, which is a fab deal we can all get behind. Available only at Marc by Marc Jacobs stores.

Oh, Marc!  Je t’adore!  Truly.  But dahling!  What is this… thing… that you’ve inflicted upon us?  It hurts my eyes, it hurts my heart, it offends my very being!  Is it supposed to be leopard print?  You must have a chat-chat with your textiles designer immediately.  Yes, times are tough in this stalled economy but Marc!  LOOK at the poor imitation of leopard that resulted!  No, no, on second thought, don’t look — you’ll risk injury!  It’s hideous, take my word for it.  Colors are missing, shapes are distorted, hues are completely off.  And paired with your black and white block print lining — my my!  It’s practically psychedelic, and not even in a good way.  And then, to add insult to injury, your name was distastefully scrawled in a leaf green and stamped onto the handles of this monstrosity!  And the shape!  Is it a bucket?  Is it a tote?  It seems to hover in some amorphous in-between, the purgatory of forms.  And has the world gone mad??  Someone at Saks (friend of yours, yes?) has seen fit to purchase a lot of these and slapped a price tag of $188 on each.  There is only one possible scenario I can dream up that would result in a fiasco such as this: since it is patently obvious that you had no hand in the design and production of this bag, I can only assume that there are some slanderous crooks on your design team, trying to ruin your reputation!  I’ll send in the detectives.

Just because she’s no longer on “The Hills” doesn’t mean Lauren Conrad isn’t a busy gal. She’s got her Kohl’s collection, and word on the street is that her book has been optioned for a movie (um, yay?). The starlet looked groovy on the go with her black top, orange skirt, and brown leather Marc by Marc Jacobs Dr. Q Remy handbag, a cute everyday alternative to her perennial Chanel.

Louis Vuitton, this legendary luxury brand has a legacy dating all the way back to 1854. A company with this much history and tradition generally has very formal procedures in place.  However, while much of the high end fashion sector is lagging behind on the social media front, Louis Vuitton is out of the gate and streaming their big show live on their Facebook page.  They already started connecting with top-tier fashionistas on Twitter.  

This is GREAT news for those of us who couldn’t get the right flight to Paris, or their invitation was lost in the mail.  Instead, you can watch the Marc Jacobs creations with a front row view and note all of the goodies you will be wearing next season.

Does anyone do cute better than Marc Jacobs? Judging by this adorable Marc by Marc Jacobs Petal to the Metal Sasha Shoulder Bag, I’m going to go with a “no.” Though the black leather and gold zipped details of this flap-front purse are fetching, it’s the gold bird charms that steal the show. Very girly, sure, but creative too. Available at Saks Fifth Avenue for $498.

Is your wardrobe missing a little razzle dazzle? Add some glitz with this flashy Marc Jacobs Frame Wallet Sequined, a purple evening bag with lots of personality. Though obviously not for everyday, this show-stopper would make one hell of a companion to your favorite party dress on a big night out. Purple + sequins = wallflowers need not apply. Marc Jacobs is easily the most anticipated show of any Fashion Week.  Sometimes it’s due to the 2 hour delays (though this season’s show was one of the prompt shows of the week). For the paparazzi, it’s the front row celebrity quotient.  It’s easy to forget that Marc Jacobs (and fellow Parsons alum) is one of the more influential trendsetters in the bunch.

This season, while most other runways were covered in 1980’s neons and leggings, the designer was inspired by ballet and the theater.  There were romantic ruffles, harlequin-like silhouettes and makeup.  Art Deco prints mixed with Bohemian prints.  Satin innerwear-as-outerwear details.

The handbags were just as coveted as the clothes.  The ruffled details adorned the purses as well.  The bohemian influence was also included in several fringed handbags.  There were slouchy oversized bags as well as smaller hobos.  All soft, to coordinate with the delicate, feminine clothes on the runway.

Front row: Madonna, Jesus Luz , Lady Gaga, Perez Hilton, Vogue Superteam (Anna Wintour/Grace Coddington/Hamish Bowles, etc.)

I love a good chick flick, which is why I can’t wait to see the star-studded rom-com “Valentine’s Day.” Until then, I’ll have to make do with these shots from the set. Star Jennifer Garner’s red cardigan and navy skirt may be a bit Minnie Mouse for me, but I love her Marc by Marc Jacobs Hillier Hobo. I wonder…is it hers, or part of her on-screen wardrobe? Either way, it’s a winner!
