A spring palette is typically not my favorite; I’d trade the muted pastels of the season for bright and bold hues any day. But the soft pink trim on the Madewell Contrast Mini Mailbag is almost enough to make me a convert; contrasted with a neutral tone, the bubblegum pink looks much more sophisticated and structured. It’s $110 at Madewell.

In fact, it’s more than reasonable considering that you’ll carry the Navoh Ava Satchel for years and possibly make it your work-to-play companion as often as humanly possible. This versatile beige shade looks phenomenal with everything, whether you’re headed out in one of the season’s trendy printed blazers and jeans or keeping it conservative in a polished shirtdress. I’m torn. Truly torn. Is this Alexander McQueen Punk Shell Embellished Box Clutch worthy of appreciation for being so audacious? After all, it’s not every day you spot a bag half dipped in ivory shells, half decorated with a combo of black beads and studs, and topped with a menacing starfish-skull. It’s madness, right? Yet unlike a majority of equally mad McQueen box clutches, this one isn’t even a little bit attractive. Dare I say it’s actually ugly? What do you think? Available for $3275 at NET-A-PORTER.

Impressive, Elliott Lucca. Very impressive. While other labels continue to commit to the same ol’, same ol’ colorblocked look, Lucca takes a fresh and effectively different approach with the Jun Convertible Clutch. Making it a superstar are the sparkling blocks of color that adorn the flap – on this brilliant orange version, the bright is nicely complemented by gleaming metallics. Finished with simple leather and a minute turnlock closure, this bag is incredibly well made and thoughtfully designed. In four colors. Available for $128 at Nordstrom.

I wish I could honestly declare that I’d carry this gorgeous Smythson Jackie Tote as my summer bag, but I know myself too well, and though I love the deep, rich, emerald color, it won’t go with anything in my closet. I have to match my bags with outfits to feel right in the world! This goatskin leather tote features a lobster clasp closure, satin lining, an interior zipper pocket, a ruched organizational pocket, and a small logo print at the center on the front. I deeply admire this purse and am saddened by the thought that we don’t have a future together (insert frown face here). Have room for this beauty in your future? To me, neon is most interesting when it’s contrasted with softer, more feminine details, like the lace overlay on this bebe Crochet Lace Tote. A hot red-orange turns the demure texture into something extraordinary. But if, despite this pairing, neon’s still not for you, this purse is also available in a more subdued color called “natural”. Clutches with vintage imagery seem to be the new thing this season – not that I’m complaining. This Ted Baker Seaside Bobble Matinee Wallet depicts two bathing beauties from yesteryear, just, ya know, sittin’ on the dock of the bay. Nothing has been left to chance here, from the spacious, multi-compartment interior (including twelve card slots) to the colorful red bobble clasp. I’ve never been a big J.Crew fan – I find the clothing a bit humdrum and bland, and I can never quite fathom paying through the nose for pieces so basic. Every now and then, though, the label’s accessories offer a pleasant surprise. The Candy Striped Canvas Clutch is one of those rare beasts: playful, charming and (relatively) reasonably priced.
