Hi AnnaMaria! I’ve found a few tan totes that I hope you’ll like. I completely agree that $495 is a bit much, especially when you’re just finishing school. Besides, $200 seems like a very reasonable budget! My personal favorite is the Clava Vachetta Small Shopper, it’s got long shoulder straps, extremely soft leather, and it’s a great price. Jenny wrote to our sister site, Outblush, saying: “I have been carrying the same handbag (albeit, a really NICE handbag, or, er, I guess it’s technically a messenger bag) for 2.5 years now, and I think I may finally be ready to move on from it. My current bag is the Shih Monica Messenger bag in grey leather with silver hardware. I LOVE the way this bag looks, but my problem with it is its one huge internal compartment. Sometimes I have to call my iPhone from my home phone in the morning just to locate my iPhone when it’s INSIDE my purse. The bag is THAT cavernous. I tend to be messy, so I’m not good at keeping my bag cleaned out. I need a bag that will enforce some organization on myself! I’d like to keep the budget to under $400. I usually like colors, but I’d also like to be able to use this bag for quite awhile, so nothing that would be TOO seasonal. I also like Orla Kiely a LOT, but I have had many Orla Kiely bags over the years. My current laptop bag is an Orla Kiely bag with the multicolor stem print, if that gives you more indication of another style I like.

The biggest request would be that the bag has NO GOLD HARDWARE. Also, no bows or anything frou frou. I like the large silver hardware of my current bag (in fact, it’s my favorite part of my bag), and I’d probably enjoy that in another bag. It MUST have silver hardware. I’m tall (5’10″), so I can carry a pretty large bag without it looking ridiculous. I’d like something reasonably large without being huge. I don’t need it to be big enough to hold a laptop or anything. This would really need to be an everyday bag that would last awhile. I can only convince my husband of the wisdom of “investing” in a new bag if it will last at least a year! Thank you!”
