Lena Horne

In 1933, Lena Horne began what was to become a long and successful career as a singer, actress and social activist. Recognized for her ageless beauty as well as her flawless voice, she was most known for the hit song “Stormy Weather.” Whether she was appearing in movies, in night clubs, or on television, she was the ultimate star and always dressed the part. Horne passed away on May 9, 2010, at the ripe age of ninety-two, but her music lives on – and she will always be remembered for her talent and her consistent simple elegance.

Designers can be quite adventurous when it comes to creating “exotic” bags. The overuse of unusual animal materials can either delight or deter women from the bag in question, which I think might be the case with the Roberto Cavalli Squirrel-Trimmed Brocade Shoulder Bag. The fact that it’s accented by an animal that we see just about every day is something I’m personally repulsed by – but there are many, many women out there who would appreciate this for its otherwise lavish appearance. Wow, that Roberto Cavailli Leather Fringed Shoulder Bag is really making the Hollywood rounds. After getting some play from Jessica Simpson, the studded black leather handbag has now popped up on Halle Berry, who looks lovely as ever, if a bit low-key. You’d think that with summer breathing down our necks stars would be opting for handbags that were lighter and/or colorful, but there’s just something about the purse‘s rocker edge that’s driving the starlets wild.

Watch out, people – the Simpson ladies are in full force! Jessica Simpson stepped out with mama Tina and little sis Ashlee for a ladies’ night, and opted for Roberto Cavalli’s Leather Fringed Shoulder Bag for the night. Animal prints may be fairly timeless, but that doesn’t mean they always work. Take, for example, this Roberto Cavalli Animal Print Calf Hair Hobo. The side panels feature stripes running in one direction, while the center panel’s stripes run in another, a look that is discombobulated enough without the help of the black leather wrap and gold hardware.
