I recently missed out on a massive Versace sale and the opportunity to score some luxe bags at seriously reasonable prices. To console myself, I’ve been ogling all that I could have had (it’s not helping). Though this new Woven Leather Satchel wasn’t offered, it would have instantly caught my eye. The fresh lime color is just in time to add impact to spring wardrobes - just imagine it with dresses and sandals, the perfect ensemble for a warm day. As far as I’m concerned it’s never too early to start thinking warmth and planning what to wear once it finally arrives. At $1995, this is quite an investment, but it’s a versatile one. I love a well-meaning tote that offers me tons of room, looks amazing and will travel well from the early morning hours to a late dinner with friends. This Versace Metallic Shopper is not that tote. Though I love the premise of a metallic leather bag accented by a chic chain strap and a little slouch to contribute to that glam-yet-not-over-the-top facade, this shopper lacks a certain something that really makes it worth the $2280 price tag. The perforated leather isn’t my favorite look, and the color isn’t versatile enough to fit in well with the majority of my wardrobe. I normally adore Versace’s bags, but this goes straight into the “no” pile. Available at Nordstrom.

Got a demon inside?  This devilishly hot and sexy red Kiss Stamped Croc handbag from Versace looks like it is sprouting horns up top and a flickering tail off to the side.  The uber-luxe Italian calfskin is embossed with a fiendish crocodile texture.  Get wicked, play the evil temptress, that’s what All Hallows Eve is for.  If you are going to seduce Beelzebub, make sure you do it with high-end designer style.

Consider it a come-hither accessory that does the talking when you’re too shy to flirt. The Versace Kiss-Print Shopper exudes a certain flirtatious quality, buoyed by a brilliant fuchsia leather, kiss-shaped outline. It frames an intriguing spate of printed fabric that showcases everything from art to architecture. Add some functional pockets and a chunky gold chain and it’s a recipe for classic Versace excess. Despite my misgivings about spending $3325 on, um, anything, I don’t mind this over-the-top purse at all. Available at Nordstrom.

Common sense would normally dissuade me from dropping two grand on a shoulder bag so bright it requires very specific occasions and outfits in order to actually carry it, but this is Versace, folks - and Versace can be pretty darn irresistible. In the case of this Croc-Stamped Bag, that holds true more than ever. I’m loving the fun fuchsia hue (it’s also available in a very grape-like purple), which, paired with gold, is just stunning. The bag’s gold suede interior makes it all the more appealing. Available for $2065 at eLuxury.

How fabulous is this? I’m loving the Versace Crocodile Embossed Shopper, from its warm beige hue and pearlescent leather to the chunky gold chain handles and discreet charm. This is the kind of everyday handbag that’s worth saving up for, particularly because it won’t ever go out of style - the textured leather lends it all the extra detail it needs, the color is classic and it will pair well with nearly everything all year long. If ever there was a study in decadence and excess, this may well be it. Of course, who else but the good people at Versace would do us all so proud with such over-the-top extravagance? The label’s Embossed Patent Leather Tote is a dream, rich in alluring patent leather as glossy and colorful as a ripe eggplant and touched up with just enough silver metal hardware to really turn some heads (as if the bold hue alone wouldn’t do that). Fashioned into a tote, it’s the perfect daytime accessory - in fact, carrying it is an ideal way to infuse that sinful Versace style into your everyday wardrobe. While most of the label’s bags cater to the party-all-night crowd, this, despite its hardcore drama, works the day shift flawlessly. Available for $1510 at eLuxury.

Where has Donatella been? She has not been in the spotlight, nor have you heard much buzz about what stars she is dressing for red carpet events. Hopefully she is okay and can continue to walk strong in the Versace and Versus traditions of high fashion with an edge. The Versus’s Medium leather bag, available at yoox.com for $372, has a distinct look. I am not a fan of the “VS” initials plastered on the face of this beige suede bag. It looks like Victoria’s secret has been revealed as nothing more than a cheap WWF franchise ripe off. However I do like the metallic foil pattern (hidden by the obscene VS), but none the less still pretty. I hope to see more of Donatella in the future. Her face, not VS, should grace the cover of the Versace legacy.

Hot mama alert! New mommy Halle Berry was showing some signs of post-partum perfection in this lovely white sundress and a matching Versace Puckered Hobo. While I’m not a huge fan of the purse - the patterned leather and tassels are a bit much IMHO - I love the look as a whole. It’s relaxed and effortless, yet still chic and luxe. I wonder if Donatella gave Halle the handbag as a freebie for starring in those Versace ads?

Did you hear the news? Versace is designing for Sesame Street. How else to explain this atrocity? Surely, the designers at the Versace atelier did not expect young women of sound mind to enjoy this skinned Elmo hanging from their arms? Yes, it’s fox fur and therefore irresistibly silky but that’s the only thing in the Pro column for this Versace Red Fox Hexagonal Tote, and even that’s debatable by all the anti-fur consumers out there. The glaring red dye? The clumsy and unattractive shape? And the ridiculous price tag? No wonder it’s found its way to BlueFly: (don’t) pick one up for $3,768!
