I don’t know why I’m giving these two pop culture vultures any more exposure, but hey, this is a designer handbag site, and that is one fetching Yves Saint Laurent purse Heidi Montag is holding. Did it come from Santa or Spencer? Who knows? But I do know that I’m definitely reevaluating my life choices if a reality show nimcompoop like her can have a stockpile of luxury purses (let’s not forget her Chanel and Hermes stash) while I save my pennies. Anyway, I like the plum hue - it’s bold but still suitable for winter.

Well, isn’t this sssssssexy. The iconic Muse gets a funky and fabulous update with this Yves Saint Laurent Multicolor Python Muse, which charms with a dusky and mysterious blue and gray color palette. The details are pure classic Muse - “Y” inset, gold hardware, etc. - but the snakeskin pattern feels fresh and exotic. I’m not the biggest fan of python, but this design keeps the serpentine look from looking too flashy or over the top. Available for $3,995 at Bergdorf Goodman.

Well, Lily Allen sure has great taste in handbags, I’ll give her that. The singer’s added a fetching black Yves Saint Laurent Downtown Tote to her formidable stash of Chanels. Speaking of Chanel, looks like Lily either got tagged by Karl Lagerfeld, or decided to do some DIY designing with a white tee and a black marker. I’d comment on her black gloves, shorts (this is in freeze-your-arse-off London mind you), fishnets, and Uggs, but, well…I’m speechless.

If I didn’t know better, I’d say this photo of Cameron Diaz was completely staged. Does anyone ever look that perfect and chic when they’re trying to flag down a taxi? Where’s the look of annoyance? Where’s the panic at being late? Where’s the puddle water that inevitably splatters you? But never mind all that. I love her classy winter look, especially her stand-out cowl-neck sweater and that enticing Yves Saint Laurent Tribute Tote, shown here in black croc. It’s cozy, it’s glam, and it’s sophisticated. If that doesn’t help land Cameron a taxi, nothing will.

Lindsay Lohan is wearing so much black in this photo that it’s almost hard to notice her chic Yves Saint Laurent Dome purse. That’s a shame, because this particular YSL is that perfect rare breed of high-end designer prestige with everyday versatility, especially with in black. It’s a fab bag - I’d just like to see it stand out a little more with an outfit that’s less monochrome.

Big bags are still huge for fall and winter, but downsizing is good idea if you’ve binged on huge purses for the past few seasons. The Volcano is the best of both worlds: plenty of room without the massive proportions. Available at saks.com, the Volcano tote retails for $1,395. The soft brushed gold color is neutral enough to work into any wardrobe, but interesting enough that the purchase is (somewhat) justified.

My sources lurking under Anna Wintour’s four-poster bed tell me that jewel tones are gonna hit it big as a fall fashion trend, so wise up to these color-saturated purses. Though I’m a sucker for a nice edgy black patent version, the Yves Saint Laurent instant-classic Tribute Tote in turquoise has me reaching for the ol’ credit card. Fendi’s ruby-red Satin Forever Clutch is a jewel of the Nile I can’t deny-al. I also love the captivating sapphire hue (so hot with a LBD) of VBH’s Alligator Compact Clutch and the rich peacock suede of Valentino’s Maison Studded Tote. Now if only they came with actual jewels…

Fans include Madonna, Cameron Diaz and the cast of Gossip Girl. I myself chose the Antique Floral Wallpaper hand painted cuff, from the Spring 2008 collection, for my wedding. The clasp is fitted with just a touch of sparkle to attract initial attraction to the hand painted details laying beneath the resin surface. After 3 months of wedding bliss, I have become obsessed with this cuff. And more importantly I have become obsessed with Alexis Bittar and his jewelry. I don’t know about you ladies, but I’m not wild about the idea of sequins on handbags. Unless they serve as minimal embellishment on a dressy clutch, they definitely don’t belong. You can see why by observing this Yves Saint Laurent Mombasa Sequined Hobo. A sequined hobo can never be a good thing, as this so ably proves. The brown leather and horn-style handle are fine, but the multicolored sequins making their way down the bag in a graphic pattern are just way too much.
