Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring/Summer 2013

One of the highlights of spring/summer 2013 was checking up on what Marc Jacobs had in store for the season. The designer, always the master of the curious, the sublime, the downright weird at times and, often, the classic, brought plenty of playful punch to his Marc by Marc Jacobs collection. It’s all very welcome during the warmest time of the year – you can really imagine pairing these with just about any pretty dress and pair of open-toe wedges.
Check it out! The Marc’d and Check’d Printed Satchel really hits the spot if you’re in the mood for something preppy and plaid – but in a slightly different fashion than the usual. A tightly woven pattern gives it a more modern appearance, and the bold white leather keeps it from looking too hokey or countrified.
While everyone else is walking around sporting boring old bags that don’t reveal a thing, you can make a statement with the Clearly Crossbody. The bag features a translucent body, but contains a bright scarlet inner pouch that keeps all of your prized possessions private. With space for your cell phone, coins and cash, it has all the bases covered.
Every year, Marc Jacobs produces at least one great beach bag. For 2013, I suspect at least one contender will be the Checkmate Tote. I love the soft white color and pattern, which helps to conceal a bit even though the bag is clear. Naturally it’s also incredibly roomy, so feel free – stash in your oversized towel, trashy novel, backlog of US Weeklys and enjoy.
