There’s something obviously adventurous about the new Michael Kors spring/summer 2013 collection. It’s as all-American as ever – something you can always count on Kors to deliver – but it presents a new, sportier twist that comes at the best time of the year, when the sun shines bright and flowers are in full bloom. It all feels very cohesive and appropriate, thanks in great part to the bold colors Kors employs. Take a look at the highlights.

“Color” me 100% obsessed with the Middleton East West Flap Stripe Bag. I can’t even think of a color combination I enjoy more than navy and red, and it doesn’t hurt to have a splash of gold thrown in to the mix. Crafted of immaculately smooth calfskin and accented by visible topstitching, this is the kind of bag that defines modern vogue in the best way – it’s crisp and stylish, but not married to any particular trend.

All you exotic skin people, listen up. Kors has you covered this spring with his Moffit Boxy Shoulder Bag. And oh, is it ever boxy! The strap is so thick it resembles a belt, and the sides of the bag are wide enough to hold double Kors logo plates on each end. They’re hammered in with gold screws for an unconventional accent to the warm mustard alligator skin. Interesting (and not even a bit cheap as it will cost you somewhere in the field of 10k).

If you’ve already got a cruise lined up, you can probably afford to splurge on a new companion to see you through your sunny days and sultry nights. Try the Miranda Large Tote, a playful kelly green bag that really shows off Kors at his best. It’s also not typical of Kors in that it’s so loud, but that’s what makes this entire collection so enjoyable.
