Devi Kroell Spring/Summer 2013

Many of us probably remember Devi Kroell and her line of bargain-price bags for Target back in 2007. Frankly, those were the golden days of Target collaborations – when the products actually looked and felt believable and not just like quickly-cobbled-together items designed with low-quality materials. Anyway, Kroell always designs pieces worthy of a second (and third) glance, whether she’s selling them on the cheap or at a luxury price. Check out some of my favorites from her spring/summer 2013 collection:
I’ve always loved the look of lacquered wood. The glossy-earthy look is irresistible, and that’s especially evident on the Clay Circle Line Wooden Clutch. Clean lines, soft curves, a mirror accent, a string of Mother of Pearl beads adding just a hint of iridescence to the mix – it’s an unbelievably complex design that works, thanks to Kroell’s skilled hand.
Probably my favorite of the entire range, the Moon Small Sutton Handbag is constructed of textured python skin and accented by a sleek, wood-like tab that slips through contrasting python skin. The colorblocked effect looks cool and effortless, and I can just about envision this being my go-to bag all spring – if I were a python carrier, that is.
Mere mortals will make do with a simple beach bag from J. Crew, but the rest will grab the Hamptons Collection Beach Bag. Striped with a shot of bright blue python, the canvas bag is certainly luxe – especially since it includes a cute little detachable pouch inside. Kind of makes it worth the major expense (kind of).
